Cherry Bars

    1 cup butter
    2 cups sugar
    1 tsp vanilla
    1/4 tsp almond extract
    3 cups all purpose flour
    1 tsp salt
    2 cans cherry pie filling (21 oz each)
    Glaze:
    1 cup confectioners’ sugar
    1/2 tsp vanilla
    1/2 almond ext
    2 - 3 tbsp milk
    In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
    Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.
    Beat in vanilla and almond extract.
    Combine flour and salt, and gradually add to the creamed mixture just until combined.
    Spread 3 cups of batter into a greased 15-in. x 10-in. x 1-in baking pan, spread with pie filling.
    Drop the remaining batter by teaspoonfuls over filling.
    Bake at 350 for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
    Cool on a wire rack.
    Combine the glaze ingredients, drizzle over the top. Cut into bars.

    Yields 5 dozen.
